UNITY IN DIVERSITY COMMITTEE
At St. Bartholomew Academy, we believe that the values of unity and diversity are inseparable elements of fostering a culturally attune academic environment. In keeping faithful to our Catholic identity and mission, we are called to build a school community that pursues the common good, the upholding of human dignity, and the building up of well-rounded relationships between persons. Our vision of cultural diversity is best expressed by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ introduction to cultural diversity in the Church: …
The Catholic Church's concern with diversity [is] not just… a practical matter but [is] something integral to the Church's very identity and mission. The focus on cultural diversity is grounded on the urgent need to grow in knowledge and develop appropriate attitudes and skills for the purpose of carrying out the Church's mission to evangelize. One cannot preach, teach or form persons in the Catholic faith adequately without attending to the ways in which Catholic faith and identity become embodied in culture.
In the end, we all have a story. Every family and every student at St. Bartholomew Academy has a story. The role of the Unity in Diversity Committee is to tell, celebrate, and educate the greater SBA community about our stories. We will work together and consider existing activities and how we can further incorporate cultural diversity into the activities and curriculum of the school and parish community.
