St. Bartholomew Academy is located at 2032 Westfield Avenue in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. The school complex is situated on a 6-acre campus that includes St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church, the Filippini Sisters' convent, a rectory building, a playground, a playscape, and a ball field.
The school building contains 20 classrooms, including an art room, a Maker Space STREAM lab, a music room, and a science lab. The Early Childhood wing contains classrooms for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students. The Kindergarten classroom is divided into instructional areas and areas for play and socialization. Grade 1 through Grade 5 classrooms are designed for self-contained instruction. The Middle School Program for Grades 6, 7 and 8 is departmentalized, using a block schedule, and taught by subject area specialists in Mathematics, Science, ELA, and Social Studies.
The St. Bartholomew Academy facility houses a science lab, a Maker Space STREAM lab, and a school gymnasium. Physical education classes and CYO school sports teams have access to a regulation-size basketball court with an electronic scoreboard. The gymnasium and cafeteria include projection televisions and new audio systems with a large stage for performances and assemblies. The building's kitchen was renovated in 2013 and is used to prepare daily hot lunches and offers students a large lunchroom.
An administrative wing contains the principal's office, a conference room, a school office, religious education office, and a nurse's suite. Health services are provided by a nurse contracted through Union County Education Services and a nurse contracted by St. Bartholomew Academy.
Technology integration is a priority at St. Bartholomew Academy as a tool to enhance learning and increase student understanding. All classrooms are equipped with Promethean boards, chrome books, and projection systems for presentation and digital learning. Students in Grade 2 through Grade 8 are assigned a Chromebook for daily school use. Early childhood and elementary classrooms have access to tablets for center-based learning.
Union County Educational Services provides supplemental instruction and compensation education to students who qualify. Services are provided by a certified special education/basic skills teacher and a part-time speech-language pathologist.
